Imphal, August 01:
Taking grim note of Imphal Municipal Council converting either side of the Langol Games Village road as dumping zone, Langol Youth Pioneer Club has expressed strong concern that continuous unloading of wastes might trigger severe health hazard in the nearby residential area.
Contending that such acts of waste dumping at the site is against the guideline of the Supreme Court, the Club further conveyed that apart from commuters on this particular route having to cover their noses while passing through the waste dumped stretch the residents too are beginning to experience foul smell on daily basis.
Further reminding that the dumping site had become breeding ground of mosquitoes and hazardous flies besides disturbing the ecological balance thereby affecting agricultural activities, the Club also informed of a special meeting held today wherein various resolutions had been adopted.
Among others the meeting decided to oppose further dumping of waste, clearance or proper manageme nt of wastes already dumped at the site, spraying of insecticides/disinfectants to prevent/contain outbreak of diseases and to hold the IMC/Govt of manipur responsible for any health hazards caused to the people.
