CADA has strongly condemned the act of pulling up of their nine volunteers of Singjamei branch and also the treatment meted out to them by a commando team when they were setting on fire a large quantity of tobacco products yesterday.
Speaking to reporters at their Keishampat office today, CADA Singjamei branch president Thangjam Thaba, nevertheless, appreciated the act of releasing the nine arrested CADA volunteers without any condition.
In connection with the incident, there was a misunderstanding with the police personnel thinking that some UG cadres attempted to set afire a hijacked vehicle.
Saying that the misunderstanding between the police personnel and CADA was unfortunate, Thaba conveyed that the misunderstanding was later removed.
The tobacco products were seized from a truck coming to Imphal from Guwahati.
CADA further asserted that it's time for the State Government to ban tobacco products like talab, zarda, khaini etc.
As for the Tata truck bearing registration number MN04-A-1188, it should stop service until its owner and CADA come to a settlement, stated CADA assistant general secretary (organisation) Md Islauddin.
