Thoubal, February 28 2022:
Wangkhem Block Congress Committee has reacted strongly to the statements made by Yumnam Nabachandra's Election Management Committee which categorically denied the allegation that other candidates of Wangkhem AC were restricted from campaigning in BJP candidate Yumnam Nabachandra's home polling in Kiyam Siphai.
Addressing a press conference held at the office of Wangkhem BCC on Monday, general secretary of Wangkhem BCC, Ch Biru alleged that BJP workers prohibited other candidates from Wangkhem AC, specially Congress candidate Keisham Meghachandra, from campaigning at Haokha and Kiyam Siphai.
Stating that he had evidence to back up his claims, Ch Biru accused BJP workers of forcibly hoisting BJP flags at the residences of Congress workers and threatening them.
Ch Biru also narrated instances of when Congress workers convened a camera meeting at Haokha Mamang Community Hall only to be allegedly restricted by BJP workers from hoisting Congress flags and from going on house campaigns.
However, he stated that candidates of other parties were free to campaign, hoist flags and conduct meetings in the home polling area of Keisham Meghachandra from Moirang Palli to Heitroipokpi.
He maintained that the Congress party does not indulge in petty, divisive politics and strongly condemned Y Nabachandra's undignified approach towards electoral politics.
Ch Biru further condemned the entire situation, deeming it as a violation of the principles of democracy and called for a free and fair election.
The press conference was also attended by other members of the Wangkhem Block Congress Committee.
