ATSUM, KSO condemn detention of INC candidate

All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) and Kuki Students' Organization (KSO) have strongly condemned unwarranted detention of Saitu AC INC candidate Dr Lamtinthang Haokip even as INC candidate's supporters resorted to flash bandh along the National Highway-2 .
Many polling personnel and officials involved in the conduct of first phase election in Kangpokpi district were stranded along the highway owing to the flash bandh called along the National Highway 2 near Kholep, the village of Dr Lamtinthang.
A reliable source informed that many more supporters of INC from across the state rushed to the agitation site to take part in agitation, demanding unconditional release of Dr Lamtinthang.
According to an ATSUM statement, Dr Lamtinthang was arrested by Manipur police on Monday while he was visiting New Keithelmanbi polling station and appealing against rampant proxy voting by BJP workers at the same polling station.
ATSUM also demanded immediate and unconditional release of Dr Lamtinthang Haokip.
KSO general headquarters also condemned the detention of Dr Lamtinthang and warned of strong agitation if the INC candidate is not released without any condition at the earliest.
It also said that the INC candidate was wrongfully framed at the behest of BJP supporters by New Keithelmanbi police station and wrongfully detained him at Imphal police station.
Meanwhile, Dr Lamtinthang's supporters at New Keithelmanbi area reportedly torched a house built in front of New Keithelmanbi police station gate late in the evening in protest against the alleged unlawful detention' of INC candidate and demanding his safe and unconditional release.
