The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur, and the Kuki Students' Organization general headquarters have strongly condemned the alleged 'unwarranted detention' of INC candidate Dr Lamtinthang Haokip as hundreds of the INC candidate supporters resorted to a flash bandh along the National Highway-2 .
Many polling personnel and officials involved in the conduct of the election in Kangpokpi district were reported stranded along the highway owing to the flash bandh near Kholep, the residential village of Dr Lamtinthang Haokip.
A reliable source also said that many more supporters of the INC candidate from across the State have rushed to the agitation site demanding the unconditional release of the INC candidate.
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur strongly condemned the alleged unwarranted detention of Dr.Lamtinthang Haokip while he was visiting New Keithelmanbi polling station and appealing against the rampant proxy voting exercise of the BJP workers at the polling station.
While urging every denizens of the State to shun poll-related violence to ensure peace, free and fair election, ATSUM also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of DrLamtinthang Haokip.
The Kuki Students' Organization has also condemned the detention of Dr.Lamtinthang Haokip and warned of strong agitation if not released at the earliest.
The student body stated that Dr Lamtinthang Haokip rushed to New Keithelmanbi polling station where the polling booth was captured and voters' slips were snatched by suspected armed militants.
It continued that on reaching the spot, the BJP supporters and suspected militants attacked the INC candidate and his supporters which left the voters furious while adding that even the security personnel deployed there threatened to shoot the INC candidate, which is a gross violation of human rights which further escalated to the destruction of EVM by unknown persons.
It also stated that the INC candidate was wrongfully framed at the behest of BJP supporters by New Keithelmanbi police station and wrongfully detained at Imphal police station.
Meanwhile, Lamtinthang Haokip's supporters at the New Keithelmanbi area also reportedly torched a house built in front of New Keithelmanbi police station gate late in the evening protesting the alleged 'unlawful detention' of the INC candidate and demanding his safe and unconditional release.
