Sheemai village observes 'Thanksgiving Day'

Senapati, January 21 2022: Sheemai (Maiba) village on Thursday observed Thanksgiving Day to mark the completion of the temporary road construction and declaration of "100% household tap water connection" under Jal Jeevan Mission.

With no major developmental project to improve road connectivity being carried out in the village till date, the villagers decided to construct the road with humble donations from well wishers of the village and beyond.

Speaking on the occasion, L D David, chairman, Sheemai (Maiba) village lauded the Village Road Development Committee for bringing motorable roads to the village, a long cherished dream of the people.

Expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing the Jal Jeevan Mission, L D David declared that Sheemai village has now 100% tap water connectivity.

L S Thole, Superintending Engineer (retd), PHED cum convenor, Maiba Road Development Committee mentioned that Sheemai village under Paomata block, Senapati district is a recognised revenue village located at a distance of 8 km away from State Highway (Maram-Phaibung Road, Koide village) and 24 km away from NH-2 (Maram Bazaar), has a population of 3041 heads with 537 households as per 2011 census.

He stated that the village was first declared as ODF (Open Defecation Free) village in January 2018 under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) programme.

However, the village has not been properly connected with adjoining villages and benefits of PMGSY have not reached the village so far.

Having experienced the misery of traveling over the dilapidated road for long, the Maiba Road Development Committee was constituted to see into the construction works, said L S Thole while adding that all economic activities of the village have been cut off due to lack of proper road connectivity.

"The work commenced from November 15, 2021 and continued till December 14, 2021 with usage of 4 JCB machines, 1 excavator, 2 Shaktiman truck, 4-5 Tata dumpers and 5-10 manpower everyday in the leveling of road, removing of landslide debris, digging of drain, cutting of narrow portions, spreading of river stone pebbles collected from Barak River banks, Koide Biisho and collecting locally available hard shale mixed with stones'', he added.

L S Thole on behalf of the villagers further appealed to the Government to look into the matter and initiate a road connectivity programme in the village at the earliest.

Rev LL Sousho, senior Pastor blessed the programme and prayed for all involved in the mission to construct the road.
