State handloom Expo 2021-22 concludes

The 15-day State Handloom Expo 2021-22 organised under NHDP at Manipur Public Library campus, BT Road concluded on Friday.
The valedictory programme of the exhibition organised by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans Cooperative Society Limited under the aegis of the Development Commissioner for Handloom, Ministry of Textiles was attended by Society's president A Ronika as the functional president.
While acknowledging that weavers add life to handloom products of the state and they need to be promoted, Ronika said existence of handloom tradition and preservation of handloom products of Manipuri weavers need to be showcased to the global community.
Media too have been a big role to play in shouldering its responsibility of giving life to handloom and encouraging the weavers, she said.
While asserting that the real asset of Manipur is handloom products of the local weavers, Ronika said that weavers are taking immense responsibility in making known Manipur to the world and every handloom product from very cheap to costly ones find its place.
She also explained that the main objective of organising the handloom expo is to provide marketing opportunities and platform for weavers.
She then thanked weavers for taking part in the expo despite COVID-19 pandemic with strict adherence to SOPs.
The function was also attended by Indian Handloom Brand 7 national awardee Urikhinbam Bala as chief guest while Weaver Service Centre deputy director HK Baro, National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd officer-in-charge Y Shantikumar and Manipur Public Library custodian K Chaoba were guests of honour.
