Imphal, January 21 2022:
Kabui Customary Council, Manipur has spoken out against the Zeliangrong Baudi's assertion that Gaan-Ngai is a festival of the Zeliangrong tribe.
In a statement, KCC stated that the Zeliangrong community consists of the Zeme, Liangmai and Rongmei tribes and the Zeliangrong Baudi's claim that Gaan-Ngai is a festival of the Zeliangrong community consisting of Zeliang, Kabui, Liangmai, Zeme etc is utterly fictitious.
KCC strongly asserted that the Kabui tribe does not belong to the Zeliangrong community and this move is an attempt to usurp the Gaan-Ngai festival by including Kabui in
the Zeliangrong community.
Further, KCC also spoke out against the assertion of Dr RK Ranjan, Lok Sabha Member, CM N Biren Singh and Manipur Assembly Speaker Y Khemchand Singh stating that the Gaan-Ngai was a festival of the Zeliangrong community on January 15 .
KCC has urged against such attempts to erase the Kabui tribe's customs.
