Trees cut down

After getting due clearance from the State Forest Department, Public Works Department has started cutting down the trees which are grown on both the sides of the road between Malom and Keishampat as part of the road expansion and widening work.
According to a reliable official source, expansion and widening of the road is being undertaken by PWD since the past few months.
The source added that the trees could not be uprooted and shifted to other places due to non-availability of equipment and other technical supports.
Saying that in all 650 trees would be cut down, the source said that PWD would plant 1950 tree saplings after the completion of the road expansion works.
PWD would also have to pay a compensation of Rs 3.69 lakhs for cutting down these trees, the source added.
