3 employees abducted

Imphal West district commando personnel launched a massive search operation from Sekmai up to Motbung area from last night, following the abduction of three non local employees of a private company, Shivalaya Construction Co Private Limited, who were engaged in construction works of the National Highway 2 from Tendongyang to North AOC, by suspected militants from their work site at Sekmai Khwairakpam Kusong.
Due to the incident, some of the labourer have left the site and returned to their native States.
According to information collected from the incident site, the labourers and staff of the private company stated that yesterday, at around 9.30 pm, while they were about to sleep, six well armed suspected militants (who communicated among themselves in Kuki dialect) came up to the work site (Khola) complex located at Sekmai Khwairakpam Kusong from Sekmai river bank located on the eastern side of the khola.
They then took the private security staff in their custody at gun point and snatched away his (security staff) mobile phone.
Thereafter, the well armed militants (four wearing camouflage uniforms and two in civil dresses) kicked open the doors of the khola and called out all the labourers from inside and began assaulting all the labourers, including the machine operators and other staff of Shivalaya Construction Co Pvt Limited.
The unknown militants then asked the people to form separate rows for labourers, machine operators and staff, before taking away the company in charge Bir Singh (40) s/o Satbir of Haryana Biwani district, plant operator Ramji (25) s/o Kanhaiya of UP and Milling machine operator Dinesh Kumar Yadav (30) s/o Rajdeep Yadav of UP, Pratapgar, at gun point.
The workers and staff also alleged that the suspected militants also snatched 20 mobile phones from the people and threw them towards Sekmai river.
As soon as the armed individuals left, the workers informed Sekmai police about the abduction of the three employees by unknown suspected militants and the police responded at once and launched a massive search operation in the nearby area from last night onward.
Speaking to media persons, Project Manager Santender Kumar Singh said that the company had set up the complex at Sekmai Khwairakpam Kusong since the last eight months.
He continued that recently, road construction works from Tendongyang to North AOC began after setting up their machinery and 75 employees are working for the company in total.
No threats or demands have been made by any underground militants since they set up their machinery for the construction works before yesterday's incident, he said and added that they are yet to receive any kind of phone calls in connection with the abduction.
The Project Manager then appealed those behind the incident to safely release the abducted employees immediately.
On the other hand, soon after the incident was reported to Sekmai police, a team of Imphal west district police, led by Additional SP Th Krishnatombi, carried out a search operation to rescue the abducted employees beginning from last night.
The commando team carried out search operations along the Sekmai river bank and a number of villages located on both sides of the Sekmai river, from the incident site up to Motbung bazar area, till today evening.
Efforts to rescue the abducted employees are still going on till time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, Sekmai Protection Committee, Awang Sekmai Advance Women Society, Sekmai Nagar Panchayat have condemned the abduction of three employees and have appealed to those concerned to safely release them at the earliest.
