Imphal, March 17 2017:
In order to streamline and extend the benefits of Prime Minister's Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) to all deserving beneficiaries, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has advised oil marketing companies to assist and facilitate all eligible beneficiaries individually in obtaining Aadhar Card/bank account number.
Acting on the advice, oil marketing companies have been working to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is deprived of LPG connection under PMUY for want of Aadhar number and/or bank account number, informed a source.
There have been reports that PMUY benefits would be denied to women of BPL households from now onwards who are not in possession of Aadhar card as per notification issued in this regard.
These reports were misleading as Aadhar was already being used since the time of launch of the scheme and not from the date of notification as reported, clarified the source.
All LPG connections issued under PMUY have Aadhar number and bank account details seeded in the database.
Incidentally, the PMUY was launched by the Prime Minister on May 1 last year in Balia, UP.
Through this ambitious scheme, the Government has set a target of providing five crore LPG connections to BPL families.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has reported that the target of 1.5 crore connections fixed for the current financial year has been surpassed and total connections released as on March 9 this year stand at 1.85 crore, added the source.
