N Biren sworn in as 20th CM of Manipur

Even though BJP won lesser number of seats than rival Congress party, its legislature wing leader Nongthombam Biren was sworn in as the 20th Chief Minister of Manipur.
N Biren was sworn in as the Chief Minister on Wednesday during a solemn function held at Raj Bhavan.
Apart from Chief Minister N Biren, Governor Najma A Heptulla administered the oath of office and secrecy to eight MLAs who would be inducted into the new Council of Ministers.
The eight MLAs who would be inducted into the Council of Ministers are Y Joykumar (NPP), Letpao Haokip (NPP), N Kayisii (NPP), L Dikho (NPF), K Shyam (LJP), Th Biswajit (BJP) and Th Shyamkumar (Congress).
While Y Joykumar was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister, the seven MLAs were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers.
Speaking to media persons after the swearing in ceremony, Chief Minister N Biren stated that his Government's foremost task was to get the UNC's indefinite blockade lifted.
N Biren was elected to the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly for the first time on DrPP ticket.
He was re-elected to the 9th and 10th Manipur Legislative Assemblies on Congress ticket.
He went on to hold different Ministerial posts under in the preceding Congress Governments headed by Chief Minister O Ibobi before before switching sides to BJP.
He contested the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election on a BJP ticket.
