Absconding rapist caught

Imphal, August 03 2012:
A 25-year-old rape accused, who has been absconding, was reportedly rounded up by volunteers of an Imphal based woman civil organisation named Young Women Health Organisation (YWHO), Sega Road and later handed him over to police on Friday.
The rape accused is identified as Ng Abothoi, son of Ng Birchandra, hailing from Phugakchao Ikhai Mamang Leikai Ward No-4 under Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur district.
Abothoi has been accused of raping one of his next door women named Kshetrimayum Tombi, a housewife.
A group of YWHO volunteers rounded Abothoi from Ukhrul district's Poi village under Chingai Sub-division on August 1 last, A Robita, secretary, YWHO told a press meet at the latter's office premises, Sega Road here.
He was later handed over to Moirang Police Station on Friday.
Robita said YWHO was indeed thankful to the police and Assam Rifles personnel who helped the women volunteers in pulling up the alleged rapist.
Abothoi was found working in a saw mill at the village of Poi when they caught hold of him with the help of security personnel around 11 a.m.of August 1 .
The incident of rape took place on June 17 last at Phugakchao Ikhai Mamang Leikai Ward No-4 .
One Oinam Ibomcha, a co-accused in the rape case, a resident of the same locality, had earlier been lodged in Central Sajiwa Jail.
