8 more teachers get pension benefits on retirement day

Another eight pensioners in teaching profession were provided their pensionary benefits on the day of their retirement day today during a function held at the office chamber of Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro at Secretariat, South Block.
The function was organized by Zonal Education Officer, Imphal West Zone-I .
Speaking on the occasion, Minister M Okendro said that it is the policy of the state government to provide all the pension benefits to teachers on the day of their retirement.
The similar pensionary benefits would also be distributed among retiring teachers of other Zones.
However, all the functions would not be held in his office chamber from next time onwards.
The Minister also informed that a Guest House exclusively for those in teaching community is set to be constructed within the premises of Bengali High School, Imphal.
The process for construction of the Guest House has been initiated considering the problems faced by teachers from coming from far flung areas and hill areas to Imphal.
The Minister said that this has been one of his long cherished dreams and he has been pressing the Chief Minister over this for quite sometime.
The Education Minister pointed out that with construction of the Guest House, the teachers, who are still in the teaching profession as well as those who have retired from service, would be benefitted a lot.
The teachers would be charged a nominal fee of not more than Rs 20 for staying in the Guest House for a day.
The function was also attended by Gopimohan Maibam of ZEO office, Imphal West Zone-I and other top officials of the Education Department.
The pension benefits which were distributed to retired teachers today is for the second time, the first time being distributed on June 27 last.
