Womenfolk urge to free abducted workers

Demanding immediate and safe release of the two workers who were reportedly abducted by some armed persons, a large number of women staged a protest demonstration at Pheidinga Keithel today.
Sapam Meiraba (40) s/o Girani of Loitam Khullen Awang Leikai and Huidrom Khambaton (30) s/o Kullachandra of Itam Nungoi were abducted by some armed persons who reportedly identified themselves as cadres of KCP-MC from Phumlou Siphai under Lamsang police station, Imphal West district at about 9.30 pm of July 27. Meiraba and Khambaton were engaged in the construction of art RCC Bridge at Phumlou.
It is reported that the two workers were abducted in connection with a monetary demand of Rs 15 lakhs served to the contractor who was constructing the bridge.

Pheidinga Women Development Society secretary Waikhom Sanchirani who was present during the protest demonstration at Pheidinga appealed to all concerned not to abduct innocent people for ransom or bargain for their release.
She further appealed not to harass the two workers in the name of fighting for sovereignty.
Meiraba's wife Shantibala said that some people who identified themselves as cadres of KCP-MC informed her in the morning of July 28 about Meiraba being taken into their custody.
Even as Shantibala and her family tried to meet Chanambam Iboyaima who was acting as Mohori of the contract work, their approach was brushed aside by the Mohori.
Moreover, they are still unable to meet contractor Laishram Dinesh of Keishampat.
Shantibala made a fervent appeal through media to release her husband safe and sound.
Following the abduction of Meiraba and Khambaton, all other workers engaged in the bridge construction work have deserted the work site.
As of now, police too are clueless about the location of the abducted workers.
