Village threatens 48-hour total bandh

Voicing it opposition against deduction and transferring of 25% of MGNREGS funds from the Villages account to District Council members' account, Senapati District Villages Chairman/Secretaries Association today held a General Body Meeting at TNK Senapati Village Community hall.
The meeting was attended by over 150 Village chairman/secretaries and 228 members from all over 3 sub-divisions of Mao-Maram, Paomata and Purul.
The meeting expressed strong resentment against misuse of village funds and resolved to exert pressure on the concerned authorities and line department for releasing the deducted 25% of MGNREGS funds before 15th of August, 2012 .
The case of failure, the meeting decided to impose a 48-hour total bandh in Senapati District with effect from morning of 16th August to 17th August, 2012 .
Furthermore, the meeting agreed that the total bandh would be followed by economic blockade if the concerned authority authority remained indifferent to the demand even after the total bandh.
