Absconding rape accused held

One Ng Abothe of Phoubakchao Ikhai Mamang, who is accused of raping a married woman but was evading arrest, has finally been rounded up by volunteers of Young Women Help Organisation from an Ukhrul district area.
Ng Abothe alias Thapa s/o Birchandra was reportedly pulled up from Poi Khun (village) of Ukhrul and paraded before newspersons at the Sega Road Office of the Organisation.
He has been subsequently handed over to a team of Moirang police station, where an FIR had been lodged in connection with the incident.
Speaking to newspersons today, Organisation secretary A Robita Devi stated that based "on a complaint from the victim's family on July 28 activists of Youth Women Help Organisation fanned out to different locations to trace family members of the rape accused from the very next day.
While Abothe's mother namely Tilo was spotted at Central Academy, Mantripukhri and consequently brought to the Organisation's office, on July 30 some more family members surrendered themselves.
On the same day, Moirang police station authorities were approached to help the Organisation with the assurance that Abothe would be apprehended within five days, asserted the secretary.
Based on specific information, some family members of the accused and volunteers of the Organisation headed for Ukhrul on July 30 evening and launched a search.
On August 1 at around 11 pm, Abothe was finally pulled up from a house of one Jacob, a timber trader in Poi village, recounted Robita and conveyed to newspersons that the accused would be handed over to Moirang police team later today.
She further informed that local club (LAVA) president Oinam Ibomcha Meitei (24) s/ o (L) Dhiren is still detained at Moirang police station of the charge of abetting the crime and helping accused Abothe in evading arrest.
Robita also appealed to every section of the society in the Organisation campaign against rape and discrimination of women.
Abothe is accused of raping one Ebemma Devi (named changed) (27 w/o of Chaoba (named changed) of Phoubakchao Ikhai Mamang Leikai.
