JNMDA artiste named Director in charge of academy

Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Pukhrambam Bilash Singh has been appointed as the Director in-charge of Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal.
The order for appointment of the new Director in-charge was issued by Deputy Secretary (Administration) of Sangeet Natak Akademi with the approval of the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture Prahlad Singh Patel.
Speaking to media persons at JNMDA, Bilash, who joined the office yesterday, claimed that it is the first of its kind in the history of JNMDA that an artist of an institution is being appointed as the Director in-charge of the same institution.
Informing that he had joined JNMDA as a student since 1989 and became a contract Belle artist of the academy since 1991, Bilash maintained that he had also received many National and State awards, which includes Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar Award.
The new Director went on to assert that he will try his best to take the academy forward in consultation with the Chairperson and Vice Chairman of the institute.
He said that he will primarily focus on enrolling more students in various sections of the institute besides working towards enhancing the States' dance and culture.
While showing gratitude to the authorities concerned for his appointment as the new Director in-charge of JNMDA, Bilash lauded the State Government for recently launching a scheme for artists called Chief Minister gi Artiste singgi Tengbang (CMAT) in the State.
