Thoubal, May 10 2017:
The bandh imposed by MP Candidature Demand Committee demanding selection of a Rajya Sabha member from the total 8 ACs of Kakching, Thoubal and Jiribam which comes under the outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency impacted the normal life in parts of Kakching and Thoubal district today.
People from Wangjing Tentha, Heirok, Khangabok, Wabagai, Hiyanglam and Sugnu AC came out at Khongjom Bazar to support the general strike and blocked the NH-2 .
The shops at Kakching remained shut and passenger vehicles were made to turn back.
Speaking to media persons, chief convenor of MP Candidature Demand Committee Y Thambal stated that altogether 2,35,182 voters from different ACs namely 33-Heirok, 34-Wangjing Tentha, 35-Khangabok, 36-Wabagai, 37-Kakching, 38-Hiyanglam, 39-Sugnu and 40-Jiribam have lost their right to contest vote for 65 years.
He urged the State Government to fill up the only vacant seat of late Haji Abdul Salam in Rajya Sabha with a representative from the total eight ACs in the coming Rajya Sabha MP election on May 25 .
