Mobile phones seized from students

In its drive at different colleges of the state since July 28 last, Joint Students Coordination Committee (JSCC) of the six students bodies (AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, WUK & SWAK), has seized several mobile phones from students of different schools from inside the school campuses.
Addressing a press meet in this connection at the office of MSF, JSCC Convener Longjam Umakanta said that the committee conducted drive at N Tomchou Hr Sec School, Mayang Imphal; Little Master English School, Samurou; Lilong Hr Sec School; Dhaneshwori Hr Sec School, Canchipur; International School of Resources (ISOR), Canchipur; Imphal Public School (IPS), Canchipur and Sika Hr Sec School on July 28 and seized several mobile phones from students inside the school campuses.
The committee today conducted drive at Mekola Gulap Hr Sec School; Nambol Hr Sec School; MEM Hr Sec School; Zenith Hr Sec School and Utlou Model High School and seized several mobile phones.
The committee also seized Talab and betel nuts which were found selling inside the campus of Mekola Gulap Hr Sec School.
The team also found that the school does not have separate toilets for boys and girls.
Some students of Nambol Hr Sec School were also caught with Talabs inside their pockets while empty sachets of Talab were found inside the campus of Zenith Hr Sec School.
Besides, girl students of MEM Hr Sec School were found bringing various cosmetics items in their bags.
On the other hand, Utlou Model High School was found in a very pitiable situation with no facilities.
He further said that the seized mobile phones have been handed over to the school authorities who in turn handed them to the parents of the students.
Unfortunately, some parents refused to come to the schools.
This is a clear sign of irresponsibility on the part of these parents.
While appealing against using mobile phones in school campus, he urged the parents to check what their children are taking to school with them.
Punsiba Sinam said that using mobile phones and intoxicants inside the school campus and bringing cosmetics items in the school is a sign of decreasing morality among the students.
In order to save the students community from further moral degradation, bringing of mobile phones and cosmetic items and using intoxicants inside the school campus has been banned by the committee with immediate effect.
Any students found bringing these banned items, would be dealt with by the committee, he added.
