On the occasion of the World Nature Conservation day, the 7th Annual Environmental Interface cum Tree Plantation Campaign was carried out today by the Maram Students' Union (MKS) and Senapati district administration under the Go Green Mission launched since 2009 .
Senapati ADC Members L Thomas Luba, LR John, A Rang, 35 AR Commandant Col Sandeep Pandey and 98 RCC/15 BRTF CO AK Singh attended the programme as presidium members.
Adding spice to the event, students enacted a drama on the theme 'Save Trees' .
Speaking at the gathering, Thomas Luba underscored the importance of extensive tree plantation in order to conserve environment.
LR John called upon villagers to take pro-active roles in safeguarding the environment by planting more and more trees.
Under the Go Green Mission, around 80,000 tree saplings have been planted during the past seven years.
MKS president Pungdi Celestine said that they have been planting trees around N'Jai-Karii as the area has been facing water scarcity due to large scale lumbering in the past.
The gathering also condoled the demise of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam by observing a one minute silence.
Later students enacted a replica of Chipko Movement at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School.
Altogether 7000 tree saplings were planted at different places during today's tree plantation drive.
