Imphal, July 28 2015:
Slamming the ruling Government, the Janata Dal (United), Manipur today said the State Government's call for public suggestion in the drafting of the ILP Bill is nothing but an attempt to buy time.
Speaking to media persons, JD(U), Manipur unit president M Tombi Singh said the State Government has been attempting to suppress the people's agitation.
The JCILPS had already put up its five point demand to the State Government.
At such a juncture, the call for people's suggestions in framing the Bill is nothing but an attempt to divert the course of the agitation, alleged JD (U) .
The State Government has taken no plausible step to punish the police personnel responsible for the death of Sapam Robinhood.
The police personnel involved in the killing are still on the loose giving rise to a more agitations, the JD-U president stated.
The party has also demanded the Government to take legal actions against those involved in the killing.
Taking a jibe at Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, the JD-U president said all the high promises of making education a free zone have come to naught.
The State Government's decision to close-down educational institutions indefinitely is perhaps the worst decision taken by a leader.
He further appealed to the State Government to reopen educational institutions at the earliest.
The party president also demanded State Government to come to an agreement with the Joint Committee on ILPS soon.
On the suggestion of the State BJP that an Ordinance be promulgated, the JD (U) president reminded that an Ordinance can last for only six months, after which it needs to be extended.
Instead of this, it would be in the fitness of things to legislate an Act that seeks to protect the indigenous people of the land, added the JD (U) leader.
General secretary of the party, Len Gangte said that though the people living near Mapithel Dam have expressed their apprehension over the dam leakage and water seepage, the Government has so far not said a thing.
He appealed to the authorities concerned to provide necessary relief to the affected people.
