IDCF targeting zero childhood diarrhoea death in Manipur

Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight was launched on Tuesday at the Jubilee hall RIMS by Health Minister Phungjathang Tonsing.
The IDCF programme is launched all over India with an aim to improvise awareness generation for use of ORS (oral rehydration solution) and Zinc in childhood diarrhoea towards achieving ultimate goal of Zero childhood diarrhoea death.
It is also learnt that in India around 140,000 children who are at the age of 5 years and below die annually due to diarrhoea.
Though there is no official record in Manipur it is believed that around 250 children die in Manipur every year due to diarrhoea, said the health minister.
He also said that the state government will be distributing ORS and Zinc tablet through district hospital, CHC, PHC, PHSC and ASHA workers where health centre is not there.
Director Health Services Okram Ibomcha said that diarrhoea is more prevalent during monsoon and post monsoon season.
He also said that the health department is targeting zero diarrhoea death among childhood.
Ibomcha informed that safe drinking water, hand washing, proper sanitation, immunization and breast feeding or taking appropriate nutrition are some of the ways to prevent diarrhoea.
He said that preventing and treating dehydration by use of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and administration of Zinc tablets along with adequate nutrition intake by the child can easily prevent the child from getting worse.
The launching function was also attended by AYUSH Director Dr K Lokendro, Family Welfare Services Manipur Director Ashok Sharma joint, Medical Superintendent in charge RIMS Dr K Lekhachandra Sharma, staff of health services and students of medical colleges.
During the function, a one minute silence was observed to pay respect to late APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India.
