Freedom fighter Laikhuram Khagendrajit hailed on his birth anniversary

The 137th birth anniversary of freedom fighter, Laikhuram Khagendrajit was celebrated at the office of Khagendrajit Research Committee (KRC) at Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi today.
Former Director of DIPR, Kongbam Meghachandra and president of KRC, Dr M Kunjabihari graced the programme as the chief guest and president respectively, said a statement issued by KRC.
Homage and Floral tributes were paid to the photos of Laikhuram Khagendrajit and his associates-Pungsubam Ningthemjao, Chongtham Meramacha and Kshetrimayum Tomba.
A book titled 'Khagendrajit Ningshing Eshei', compilation of lyrics of songs written by 20 lyricists about the freedom fighter was also released as a part of the programme.
The said book has been edited by Okendro Khundongbam, added the statement.
Speaking as the chief guest, K Meghachandra said that L Khagendrajit was a freedom fighter who had the spirit of Revivalism and has presented us with the significant Meetei Mayek High School founded by him to revive our native language Meetei Mayek.
He further stated that today's generation should discuss and analyse the struggle of the forefathers who strove for a developed society.
It will be beneficial if the youths of today research about the works of the forefathers so that one can follow their foot steps, he added.
Delivering the key note address about the programme, secretary of KRC, Mutua Tomba stated that L Khagendrajit was among those who worked selflessly for the upliftment of the society and had made countless contributions to develop sports.
And will continue to conduct seminars and symposiums in connection with the birth anniversary of Laikhuram Khagendrajit, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr M Kunjabihari recalled L Khagendrajit as one of the prominent leaders of Manipur who had a positive vision about the future aspects and everyone should held him with high regard for his significant efforts.
