Imphal, June 01 2018:
Apprehensive of violent protests including arson from employees who are currently on strike, the State Government has deployed police personnel at different Government offices including the Secretariat.
Notably, representatives of different employees' bodies held a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Y Joykumar yesterday on the employees' demand for implementation of the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission but the meeting ended without any breakthrough.
Meanwhile, employees of different Government offices staged protest demonstrations at their offices including the Secretariat today.
Whereas a few employees' bodies attended the meeting held yesterday, the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO declined the meeting invitation contending that any meeting on the issue should be held only at the Chief Minister's level after withdrawing the warrant of arrest and show cause notice served to their leaders.
Much to the disappointment of the employees, the Deputy Chief Minister categorically stated that the State Government is not in a position to implement the 7th Pay at the moment.
Y Joykumar made it clear that the demand for 7th Pay can be considered only after receiving the 15th Finance Commission's award.
Even as the cease work strike launched by the JAC since March 22 has completed 72 days, employees of State Academy of Training and State Council of Education, Research and Training (SCERT) staged protest demonstrations at their Lamphelpat office premises today.
Employees of Secretariat North Block and South Block joined the cease work strike since May 29 and they staged a sit-in-protest today too.
As police came and occupied the spots where protest demonstrations were usually staged, protest demonstrations were shifted to alternative sites, sources informed.
