The All Manipur Muslim Organisation Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC) has conveyed that the people of Manipur will not back down until and unless there is complete and immediate withdrawal of the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
AMMOCOC, Socialist Women Association (SWA), Young Communist League (YCL), United Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation (UMM WDO) and many other CSOs, Meira Paibis, clubs numbering around 131 in total, organised a public meeting at Manipur Press Club today, and adopted various resolutions against the CAB today.
Speaking to media persons, AMMOCOC president SM Jalal said that the assurance given by the Union Home Minister that the CAB will not affect the North East region cannot be considered an achievement of the people's movement.
If the Union Home Minister gives a written assurance, then the people will be pleased, he said.
He continued that until and unless the Bill is withdrawn, there will be apprehension among the people.
As such, the people of Manipur will not back off until the CAB is withdrawn completely, Jalal added.
A joint forum called Peoples Alliance Manipur, as well as an Adhoc committee was also formed during the meeting today.
AMMOCOC president SM Jalal, YCL convenor Kameshore, SWA secretary general Bijenti and UMMWDO member Anwari Noorjahan were appointed as the convenors of the Adhoc committee.
Jalal then informed that a series of mass protests, including sit in protests, Meira rallies, formation of human chains etc, across the State will be held from 6 pm of February 3 till the evening of February 4.It was also resolved to call a total Manipur shutdown on the day the CAB is tabled in the Rajya Sabha, he added.
