BSF man dies, 7 hurt in mishap

One Border Security Force (BSF) personnel has been killed and at least seven others suffered injuries when the mini truck they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge at a Tamenglong district area today.
According to an informed source, the ill-fated mini truck was among a BSF convoy coming from Tripura and heading towards Tamenglong district headquarters when it fell into a roadside gorge at around 9.30 am near Khongsang village, which is about 25 kilometres from the district headquarters.
It is said that an entire battalion of 70th BSF from Tripura's Gokulnagar would be deployed at different locations of Tamenglong district for the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, scheduled for January 28 .
While ascending a steep slope at Kabulong areas on the Khongsang-Tamenglong road the Swaraj Mazda mini truck lost control and fell to the gorge of about 200 feet killing one personnel.
Out of 16 BSF personnel travelling in the vehicle, eight of them Out of 16 BSF personnel travelling in the vehicle, eight of them suffered injuries of varying degrees with four of the seriously wounded personnel evacuated in two helicopters upto Kangla, from where they were brought to JNIMS Hospital.
However, doctors on duty declared PK Talukdar (45) from West Bengal, as 'brought dead' to the hospital.
The other injured personnel brought to the hospital has been identified as Anil Kumar (24) of haryana, Harnath Biswas (43) of West bengal and K Murli (31) of Tamil Nadu.
Murli is reportedly in the ICU ward of the hospital.
The BSF convoy left Tripura on January 8 .
