Imphal, January 11 2012:
While conveying appreciation to the Government of Nagaland for providing man-power and financial assistance to the victims/victims' families of the ill-fated January 4 accident at near Piphima, Kuki Movement for Human Rights has voiced strong resentment against inaction by the Government of Manipur.
In an open letter addressed to the Chief Minister of Manipur, the rights body said Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio extended all possible material and man-power assistance for transportation of the bodies from the site of accident upto Imphal in addition to providing Rs 50,000 each to the victims' families and another amount of Rs 5000 each to the injured passengers.
Very surprisingly the Government of Manipur, so far has done nothing, not even showing its sympathy to the victims, bus owner, families of the deceased persons or even the wounded, expressed the Kuki Movement for Human Rights letter issued by its chairman T Lunkim.
Grimly noting stoic silence by the State authorities, including the Governor of Manipur on the matter, Lunkim desired that the State Government atleast show some sympathy to the victims or the bus owner.
It may be mentioned that 10 passengers of the ill-fated passenger bus (MN01/1833) were killed on the spot while scores suffered injuries.
