Farmers' training programme

A one-day State level farmers' training programme cum distribution of watermelon seeds under HMNEH) organised by Nahakpam Foundation for Development was held today at Khuman Lampak Youth Hostel.
Inauguration of the programme organised in collaboration with Horticulture Mission for North East & Himalayan States (HMNEH) and Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation was held with Commissioner (Hort.
& Soil Consn.) JC Ramthanga and Director (H&SC) K Ngachan as the chief guest and president respectively.
Acknowledging NFD's initiative and contribution towards uplifting socio-economic status of the State farmers, JC Ramthanga said with horticulture considered to be the best alternative of agriculture vigorous implementation of horticultural projects would boost the State's overall economy.
Addressing the gathering, HMNEH officer in-charge Kh Ratankumar expressed that NFD organising the training programme is based on the concept that it would provide an opportunity for water melon farmers to enhance their cultivation expertise and increase income generation source as well as facilitate export the produce.
As resource persons of the training programme, Subject Matter Specialist of KVK Andro Dr Dinachandra Singh and KVK Wangbal Programme Coordinator Dr M Thoithoi Singh respectively deliberated on 'Watermelon cultivation' and 'Insect pests and disease management of watermelon'.
About 70 farmers from Thoubal, Bishnupur, Imphal East and Imphal West districts participated at the training.
