MEELAL organises language seminar

Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) organised a seminar on deletion and omission of alien words from Manipuri language at GM Hall today.
Releasing of a book entitled 'Meetei Lolgee Lolgei' and paper presentation on the topic, 'Political Etymology' by Dr Indrakumar Haoba were the main highlights of today's seminar.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, Language Planning and Implementation Director Kh Raghumani invited suggestions from the general public regarding activities to be taken up by the Department.
As Language Planning and Implementation is a new Department, it is yet to prioritise the list of activities, he added.
He said that advancement of a particular language depends on the state of the people, who are speaking the language.
BOSEM Chairman P Dhanakumar said that Manipuri language has gained a new vigour with unrelenting efforts from MEELAL.
Hopefully, students would write Manipuri subject in Meetei script in the Class X examination 2015, he added.
A community is identified by its language, he said and added that Manipuri language must be protected and preserved in proper manner.
COHSEM Chairman Hamom Nabachandra said that Manipuri language was languishing under constant downfall in the past, however, it has now gained a new zest with the efforts of MEELAL.
Adding English and Hindi words to Manipuri would only dilute the beauty of the language, he added.
The Chairman also observed that huge turn up of candidates in the Meetei Mayek TET examination conducted by COHSEM has proved that the young generation has turned their interest towards Meetei Mayek.
It was also an interesting fact that top 5 positions of the examination were the candidates from hill districts, he added.
Nabachandra also said that Meetei Mayek books to be taught in Class XI and XII are now ready for publication.
