Imphal, December 20, 2013:
Two workers engaged in the construction work of a culvert at Tuichemphai between Sapermeina and Ikou, Senapati district have been abducted by some unknown persons.
Meanwhile, speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, worried families of the two workers have appealed to all concerned to release the innocent workers at the earliest.
The abducted workers have been identified as Sanasam Kala (41) s/o S Sekhar and Angom Doren alias Ingen (35) s/o A Kripa, both belonging to Wangoo Laipham Awang Leikai, Thoubal district.
Sanasam (O) Ibechoubi, wife of S Kala and Angom (O) Ibemcha, wife of Doren said that their husbands were abducted by some unidentified persons from Tuichemphai on December 10. The duo left home for the work site on December 3. They were engaged in the construction work of a culvert, the contract work of which was allotted to one Moirangthem Sanajaoba of Luwangshangbam.
Although they were abducted on December 3, their families learnt about the abduction only on December 12. According to Ningthoujam Abo (20) s/o N Sobha of Langol Ningthou Leikai who was a fellow worker at the same work site, seven unknown persons armed with sophisticated weapons came to the work site at around 8.30 pm of December 10 and asked the workers to name the contractor and the Mohori of the contract work.
Then they led away Kala and Doren by force.
The armed persons also told the fellow workers that they could not say whether Kala and Doren would be released or not.
"There were 10 workers that night and were staying together at the local LP school", Abo said.
Ibechoubi and Ibemcha decried that the contractor's wife dismissed them in the most casual and arrogant manner simply saying that her husband (contractor) and that she was not in touch with her husband since several days back.
Ibechoubi and Ibemcha went to the contractor's home on December 14 to talk about their husbands' abduction and they could not meet the contractor.
They appealed to all concerned to release their husbands in the interest of their small kids on humanitarian ground.
Kala has two children while Doren has one.
