JNIMS Director clarifies

Referring to a news item published on July 6 issue under the heading "Anomalies suspected in JNIMS MS appointment', JNIMS Director Prof L Deben has clarified that Prof L Ranbir voluntarily retired from RIMS as HoD (Pediatrics) and took appointment as Professor on contractual basis in JNIMS with effect from January 23, 2016 prior to attaining the age of 62 years.
It is true that the prescribed upper age limit for appointment to the post of JNIMS Medical Superintendent (MS) is 62 years.
But this rule is applicable for appointment on regular basis and appointment of Prof L Ranbir as MS is on in-charge basis for six months only and it was done after following due process, conveyed a press release issued by the JNIMS Director.
Regarding promotion of junior doctors after skipping senior doctors, the Director maintained that all promotions in JNIMS are done in accordance to relevant provision of relevant recruitment rules with due regard to their seniority list and also by observing MCI requirements.
With regard to conversion of daily wage staff as contract staff, the Director said that 326 staff (including 2023 daily wage staff initially engaged by the erstwhile JN Hospital Management Society and later continued to be utilized by JNIMS) of JNIMS engaged on daily wage basis were converted to contractual staff with due approval of the State Government and JNIMS Society.
On appointment of Assistant Professors on ad-hoc basis, Prof L Deben maintained that the appointment was done on ad-hoc/substitute basis with a sole purpose to fill up the vacancy left by one Assistant Professor of Physiology Department who took study leave.
Except for the said lone ad-hoc/substitute appointment, there is no other ad-hoc appointment of Assistant Professors in the Institute, Prof deben added.
