Imphal, July 01 2021:
Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) has lamented Government's inaction against the perpetual threats and harassment transportation drivers and workers had to endure while rendering selfless service along the National highways.
Cases of loot, extortion and collection of illegal taxes along the National Highways connecting the State is not a new thing and many drivers, handymen and other workers have sustained injuries, succumbed and even went missing due to brutalities and unscrupulous actions meted out to them by armed militants, said CPI-MSC in a press release.
Despite complaints regarding the grievances and requests seeking protection, the Government continued to turn a blind eye on the issue, the CPI-MSC charged and questioned whether there is any hidden agenda behind Government's inaction.
Is this Government not for the people, CPI-MSC asked while adding why there has been no apparent action against the perpetrators.
The cease work strikes by transportation drivers of FCI and All Jiribam Road Transport Union over the alleged collection of godown tax of Rs 2000 and gate pass fee of Rs 500 when the State is already stricken by the pandemic is very unfortunate, said CPI-MSC.
The stir would only add to the woes of the State, said CPI while demanding the State Government to consider the matter very seriously and take prompt action.
While further questioning where is the proposed 'Special Road Protection Force' which has purportedly been approved by the Centre as stated earlier by the Chief Minister, the party also demanded the State Government to make all possible arrangements to ensure transportation workers who are conveying basic supply to the State serve peacefully and without any disturbances.
