Imphal, November 18 2009:
BJP Manipur Pradesh president Dr Haobam Borbabu has described as baseless former Chief Minister W Nipamacha's allegation against the political organisation.
"We didn't expect such a sudden move taken up by him (Nipamacha).
It is so unfortunate for a senior politician like him who held the post of CM and Speaker to put a baseless allegation against the party just on the plea of his resignation," reacted Borbabu today on W Nipamacha stating in his resignation paper that he decided to quit BJP due to dissatisfaction with the party's activities.
Dismissing the veteran politician's charge, Borbabu said there is no crisis within the office administrative system and that all members of the party have high respect of Nipamacha, who tendered his resignation at a time when leaders of BJP and the Manipur People's Party (MPP) are working out to field a common candidate for the ensuing by-election to Yaiskul assembly constituency.
There was no hard feeling or animosity against him by any member of the party, Borbabu said adding that the party also doesn't want to put any blame on him.
"Though he has resigned from our party, we still keep our utmost regard and honour on him as a senior politician and his simplicity and straight forwardness".
Pointing out that BJP has a tradition of endorsing resignation tendered by any member and as such has accepted Nipamacha's resignation, Borbabu further expressed that it is up to his (Nipamacha) wisdom whether he would join other political party or retire from active politics as BJP has no right to stop his desires.
On the otherhand, secretary (organisation) of the State unit BJP Laimayum Basanta suggested that the former CM should have highlighted complaints, if any, earlier if he was not satisfied within the party system.
It may be noted that Nipamacha was also the president of RJD Manipur, who along with some of his workers joined BJP and was a BJP candidate at the Parliamentary election for Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
When queried on the joint effort of the BJP and MPP to field a consensus candidate for Yaiskul AC by-election, Borbabu said "we are seriously working out to single out a common candidate to defeat the ruling Congress" .
Yaiskul by-poll is necessitated following the sudden demise of Congress legislature Elangbam Kunjeshwor Singh, who was also the deputy chairman of the state
planning board.
