Imphal, November 18 2009:
In a major breakthrough, 27 Sector Assam Rifles under 57 Mountain Division at Churachandpur has discovered a racket of prepaid SIM cards being used illegally.
According to a statement issued by the PIB (DW) today, the matter came to light when one John Larinthara, a driver hailing from Mizoram was caught by troops of 30AR at Singhat with 58 activated Aircel prepaid SIM cards.
These SIM crds were activated in fake names and were being smuggled to Mizoram.
On further investigations by 3 (Naga Hill) AR, the final link was found to be one Md.Khasim Ali of Kwakta who deals in recharge coupons and SIM cards.
During search of his premises, 455 filled and blank forms and 30 different rubber stamps were recovered, the PIB (DW) statement added.
It stated that the SIM cards were sold by Khasim Ali for Rs 60 each to Madinga of Churachandpur which are to be sold at much higher rate in Mizoram.
"The possibility of these SIM cards being used by undergrounds and other anti-national elements cannot be ruled out," the statement asserted.
All the seized items have been handed over to the civil police for further investigations, it added.
