Imphal, November 18 2009:
For the second day today, students of DM Colleges of Arts, Science and Commerce as well as GP Women's College staged protest demonstrations in denunciation of a police commando team barging into the hostel rooms and harassing hostellers of DMC Art Boys Hostel on November 16 night.
As announced earlier, some hostellers have started to vacate the hostel before they were persuaded to return following an agreement reportedly reached when representatives of students' union of the three premier colleges held a meeting with the Additional director of Higher Education today.

It is informed that the Union representatives submitted a memorandum to the Additional Director RK Chaoba Singh demanding that appropriate measures be initiated to uphold sanctity of an educational institution.
Contending that the sprawling DMC campus is being utilised by police commandos to eliminate individuals, the memorandum also pointed out that such undesired conducts of police commandos had been causing mental disturbances to both the hostellers and students.
They also urged the Additional Director to direct police authorities to advise the police personnel against unauthorised random frisking inside the college campus and thrashing of civilian suspects as well as UG activists during college hours.
The other points highlighted in the joint representation include construction of college boundary fencing, gate at transit points, street lighting of the college area, stationing of security personnel at the hostel and main gates, and development of necessary infrastructures.
A student representative confided that the Additional Director assured to implement most of their demands within two days in addition to quoting RK Chaoba as saying that police authorities have been officially intimated to ensure that security personnel do not violate sanctity of educational institutions.
Informing that they would wait and watch whether or not the assurances are actually translated into action, the representative said in case there is no visible action than the agitations would continue.
