New Delhi, October 14, 2013:
Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies (FREINDS) has deleted the names of two non-locals hailing from Bihar and one person of Nepali community who were found enrolled with Meitei surname in the voter's list of Sekmai Assembly Constituency.
Expressing serious concern over the irregularities, the civil society organisation has demanded action against the authority concerned.
Speaking to reporters at its Keishampat office, FREINDS President Sapamcha Jadumani said, Manoj Bihari (35), hailing from Bihar, has been found included in the voter's list of 16/8 Polling Station of Sekmai AC under fictitious name, 'Laimayum Manoj'.
Likewise, Jeeban Tekhatri (39), a man of Nepali community, was found enrolled in the voter's list of 16/20 Polling Station of the same Constituency under the name, 'Ahanthem Jeeban'.
Moreover, name of another man hailing from Bihar, Manoj Thakur (40) was also found included in the voter's list of 16/8 Polling Station of the Constituency, Jadumani said.
Manoj Bihari, who is staying in a rented room of Laimayum Forsing (60) of Sekmai Bazar, is currently running a grocery shop at the same market, while Manoj Thakur is running a hair cutting salon.
On the other hand, Jeeban Tekhatri's wife is a Meitei, Jadumani said and added that Jeeban enrolled his name in the voter's list adopting the surname of his wife, 'Ahanthem'.
An autorickshaw driver by profession, Jeeban is currently living with his wife at Kanto Premnagar, near Leimakhong, which falls under Ward No 7 of Khurkhul Gram Panchayat.
All the three names have been deleted by the volunteers of FREINDS by complaining the matter to the related officials at Imphal West DC office.
Jadumani said that the matter came to the notice of FREINDS after Village Development Committee, Kanto Sabal and Sekmai Development Society had informed them.
Jadumani said that Foreign Office, Government of Manipur gave permission to 60 Nepali families to reside at Kanglatongbi on October 25, 1946. However, Nepali has become the most populous community in Senapati district now, Jadumani added.
