A six-day long workshop on 'Manipuri Terminology Building' has begun from today at the conference hall of SCERT at Lamphelpat here.
The workshop is to focus specially on terminology of Mathematics, History, Political science and Philosophy.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the workshop, Commissioner of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur Dr RK Nimai stressed on the need for introducing Manipuri language as a common language in every academic institute in order to shield it from further blending with other languages and lose of its originality.
Different initiatives taken up for preservation and promotion of Manipuri language in the state are indeed indebted, Nimai said, but added that inventiveness is little bit late.
He pointed out that Manipuri language has now become a blended language and lost its novelty after various languages have fused with it and hence this should be introduced as a common language in every educational institute so as to shield it from rotting.
"We need to take a lot of steps towards this end for the sake of generations to come," he added.
Altogether 40 retired professors are taking part in the workshop being organised by the Directorate of Language Planning and Implementation in collaboration with National Translation Mission, MHRD, Mysore.
