KRA beats up 4 people, NH blocked in protest

Imphal, October 14, 2013:
Tension ran high at Motbung area today afternoon after some armed cadres suspected to be members of Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA), which is a signatory of Suspension of Operation (SoO) with the Government of Manipur and India, assaulted four persons including three women at Motbung Meetei Leikai and caused destruction to two houses.
The unfortunate incident took place out at around 1 pm today.
The three women victims have been identified as Heisnam Dasumati alias Ibecha (50) w/o Inaocha; her daughter Heisnam Pushparani (17); and Nongthombam Shandyarani (18) while the injured man has been identified as Mayanglambam Subashchandra (45) s/o late Nilamadhop, all residents of Motbung Meetei Leikai.
Subaschandra origially hailed from Kakching, but has been settling in Motbung Meetei Leikai for the past 15 years.
The three women victims sustained injuries on their legs and hands while Subashchandra has been admitted to Shija Hospital at Langol here with grievous injuries on his head.
Reacting to the incident, large number of people came out and blocked the national highway at Motbung stranding hundreds of vehicles coming from both the directions.
The agitated people demanded the district administration to arrest and produce the culprits.
They piled up boulders across the road at various points and also burnt tyres.
The Additional SP of Kangpokpi along with a team of Sapermeina police rushed in to calm the situation.
Personnel of 43 Assam Rifles also intervened.
Later, an agreement was brought about with the agitated people after Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, Thadou Students Association - Sadar Hills (TSA-SH) and Motbung Village Authority road intervened.
Consequently, traffic along the national highway resumed at around 4:30 pm.
