Imphal, October 14, 2013:
Three persons have been admitted in Shija Hospital after Motbung Meitei Leikai was brutalised by four cadres who came down from KNF's Ebenezer camp.
It is reported that two have been discharged after some treatment.
Subsequent upon the assault which happened at around 11 am today, infuriated villagers of Motbung Meitei Leikai blocked Imphal-Dimapur highway at Motbung Keithel.
On receiving reports about the incident, police teams led by Additional SP Kangpokpi, Sapermaina OC and Sekmai OC rushed to the spot.
The highway blockade was called off at around 4 pm after an understanding was brought at a joint meeting of Thadou Students' Association Sadar Hills, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills and villagers of Motbung Meitei Leikai.
The basic points of agreements reached at the joint meeting were initiating befitting action against the four assailants within 48 hours, make the assailants pay medical bills for the injured victims and make the assailants repair the houses they damaged after offering an apology to the people of Motbung Meitei Leikai.
One eye witness of the Motbung Meitei Leikai outrage said that four persons who came down from the Ebenezer Camp entered a house in Motbung Meitei Leikai at around 9.15 am and asked for some drinks (liquor) saying that there were very tired.
One elderly woman of the house replied that she had stopped selling liquor since two/three days back.
At this, the four intruders said that they liquor with them.
They further requested the woman to let them rest there for a while.
After offering seats to the four cadres, the woman went to a Heijingpot ceremony at the locality.
She found the four intruders still seated in her house when she came back after the ceremony was over.
Then the woman asked the intruders to leave her house.
At this, the four cadres got up to leave the place but one of them kicked hard the main door of the house.
On seeing the scene, one Mayanglambam Subhashchandra (45) who was staying the woman's house on rent lashed the cadre who kicked the door.
In the next moment, all four of them turned to Subhashchandra and they thrashed him blue and black.
They also hit Subhashchandra on the head using a club breaking his skull.
At last, Subhashchandra, in order to save his life, ran to the place where the Heijingpot ceremony was held.
In their pursuit of Subhashchandra, the four intruders assaulted every one they came across including women and children.
Moreover, they smashed doors and windows of four houses.
They left the place only after reaching the venue of Heijingpot on seeing a large number of people gathered there.
On their way back, the assailants smashed glass window of a passenger bus at Motbung.
One functionary of Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills said that the four intruders did not look like KNF cadres even if they came from the outfit's Ebenezer camp.
Subashchandra who sustained serious injuries on the head is undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital.
Moreover, two girls namely Nongthombam Sandhyarani (18) d/o Deben and H Pujari d/o Inaocha were brought to the same hospital.
The girls have been discharged as their injuries were not serious enough.
