Young woman found murdered, suspect held

A 25 year old woman was found brutally murdered at Amurei Macha Loukol, 2 Kms North of Heirok police station in Thoubal district this morning.
The woman is suspected to have been raped before she was murdered at the paddy field.
Meanwhile, houses of three suspects including that of her alleged lover were burnt down by irate locals at neighbouring locality, Wang-jing Tekcham Leikai.
The girl bore strangulation marks on her neck and an injury mark probably created by a sharp object.
The body was found lying there by some villagers who went to the paddy field for cultivation today morning.
The suspects whose hou-ses were burnt down by irate locals have been identified as Tekcham Yaima alias Tijen (24) s/o Shyam, Ningthoujam Bishworjit alias Bishe s/o (L) Tombi and Robinson alias Kokngang.
All of them are from Wangjing Tekcham Leikai.
Family members said that the girl went to watermelon festival with some of her family members at Heirok Litan Makhong last night.
After she returned home from the festival, she allegedly received a call from her boyfriend Tekcham Yaima, who repeatedly insisted her to come out of her house at around 9.30 pm.
Although, her younger sister insisted the victim not to go, the victim girl went alone to meet Yaima.
As she did not return home till late night, her family thought that the girl might have eloped with her boyfriend.
However, in the early mor-ning today, they heard that a girl was found dead at Amurei Loukol.
It turned out to be the girl's body when her elder brother went there to see the body.
It is said that the girl is known to Yaima since past one month and he is a married man.
Yaima along with Bishworjit and Robinson are engaged as masons in the construction of a house at victim's locality Heirok Part- 2, Tomal Makhong.
Soon after the girl's body was recovered, irate Heirok locals blocked Heirok-Wangjing road and later burnt down the houses of the trio at Wangjing Tekcham Leikai.
A team of police led by Yairipok police station SDPO Hemanta arrested Yaima from Yairipok bazar at around 11 am today.
After conducting inquest and investigation by a forensic expert team, the body has been deposited at JNIMS morgue.
Meanwhile, Heirok locals conducted a public meeting at Heirok Mayai Leikai primary school ground today.
It was resolved in the meeting that the victim's body would not be claimed if the culprit is not booked within 24 hours.
Other resolutions of the meeting include submission of a memorandum to the Chief Minister through local MLA, prohibition of sale and abuse of intoxicants at Heirok and pressing the Government to put SPOs on duty.
