He also said that there is no need to invite the NSCN (K) for peace talks since it had abrogated ceasefire on April 27.He said the government policy that insurgents must lay down arms before coming to the negotiating table remains unchanged.
All these years the combined forces of state and the central governments have been launching counter insurgency operations.
The government strongly condemned the cowardly attack against the personnel, he said.
Lt Gen Rawat also denied the charge of a news channel that the army had downplayed the threat perception of NSCN (K) which was made known by the intelligence inputs.
He explained there are daily inputs of such reports and the army had been acting on them.
In fact, Rajalung of the NSCN (K) cadre who was killed in the ambush had been arrested in 2012.He admitted that so far no militant is arrested in connection with the ambush although as a matter of routine, militants are arrested daily.
Parts of the international border is sealed to ensure that the militants do not flee across the border.
For family matters, villagers are allowed to venture upto 16 km on either side of the border.
However militants are misusing this facility, he added.
