MLA Nemcha emphasizes 'environmental friendly' life-style

"The Earth is our collective home and we must share its resources and burdens equally among us" said Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen while emphasizing the need for environment friendly life style of the people on the occasion of World Environment Day on Friday .
The MLA was speaking at the Keithelmanbi (Champhai)-Gopibung-West Selsi Road organized by Kuki Baptist Convention (KBC) Gambih No.5 Kangpokpi Area.
She said that World Environment Day, also popularly known as Environment Day is first celebrated in 1973 as a means to tackle environmental challenges that include climate change, global warming, disasters and conflicts, harmful substances, environmental governance, ecosystem management and resource efficiency.
Urging everyone to join hands so as to to conserve and protect environment, the MLA emphasized the importance of protecting the planet and promoted an understanding that each individually can play a significant and effective role in spreading awareness on the impact of climate change.
She attended the function as Chief Guest planted a sapling to mark the observation while contributing in cash to the organizing committee of the function to sustained their activities.
The observation function was also attended by Ngulkhohao Kipgen, Addl.
Principal, Chief Conservator, Forest Department, Govt.of Manipur and Robert Sheilam, DFO Sadar Hills Kangpokpi as Guest of Honour while Dr.Guido Kuchelmeister and Dr.Johannes Marx from Germany attended as Special Guest.
Dr.Kuchelmeister from Germany said that you do not have to make the whole mountains green if you think the springs, stream and the areas which are too stiff to be cultivated but you make sure that you make it green the place where you think is require for your livelihood.
Dr RK Ranjan, former Registrar Manipur University said that the United Nation had declared this year World Environment Day theme as "Conscious Sustainable Consumption" while adding that we have to be conscious and it has to be sustainable to our consumption either it might be food, oxygen or energy which derived from Forest.
Apart from the church members of KBC Gambih No.5 and villagers from the adjoining areas Dr.R.K.Ranjan, Former Registrar, Manipur University; Kh.
Shyam Singh, IFS, Conservator of Forest, Northern Circle; Prof.Suresh C.Rai, of Delhi School of Economics and N.Sanjoy Singh, Asst.Prof.G.P.Women College, Imphal also attended the function.
Planting of various tree saplings along both side of W.Selsi Road and stickers' campaign along NH-2 marked the occasion.
