HSLC exam starts across 158 centres ; 3 expelled on day 1 for impersonation

Imphal, March 16 2023: One of the most important examinations in the academic career of young students, the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) commenced today across 158 examination centres scattered across the hill and valley areas of the State.

The first day of the HSLC Examination 2023 began with the English paper and witnessed the expulsion of three individuals for impersonation.

According to a statement issued by L Mangi Singh, Controller of Examination, BOSEM, two persons were expelled for impersonation at MG Evergreen High School, Pallel, bearing Roll No 15877 and 15860 respectively and a third was expelled at Ideal High School, Pallel, bearing Roll No 15582 .

Altogether 36,127 students enrolled for the HSLC Exam 2023 which is set to conclude on April 3 .

This comprises 18,286 male regular candidates; 18,628 female regular candidates; 596 male external candidates and 617 female external candidates.

Compared to last year, the number of students who enrolled for this examination has reduced by 1637, a BOSEM official said.

In the previous year, a total of 39,764 students enrolled for the HSLC examinations.

This consisted of 20,245 male regular candidates; 19,197 female regular candidates; 166 male external candidates and 156 female external candidates.It might be noted that in 2022, students who failed to secure pass marks in upto two papers/subjects were allowed to sit for the Compartmental Exam, which in turn led to a large number of students successfully clearing the examination.

BOSEM officials have attributed the decrease in this year's number of student enrollment for HSLC Examination 2023 to the high pass percentage of students last year.

It is worthwhile to note that out of the total of 36,127 students appearing for the HSLC Exam 2023, 8130 are Government school students; 1520 are aided school students while the rest 28,477 are private school students.

Meanwhile twelve blind/physically handicapped students are also in the mix.

In the past, Akham Joykumar, Chairman, BOSEM had intimated to the media that 70 inspection teams from BOSEM and 45 teams comprising of student volunteers and stakeholders will carry out inspections across various examination centres to ensure that the HSLC Exam 2023 is conducted in a fair manner without cheating.

BOSEM had also shared that the results of the Class X examination will be declared by the second week of May.
