VDFs' guardians stage sit-in protest

Senapati/Thoubal, July 14 2022: Senapati District VDF Guardians' Association organised a sit-in-protest in support of the demands of Village Defence Force (VDF) at Senapati local ground on Thursday.

The protest was attended by family members of the VDFs including their children and they shouted slogans in support of the demands.

The protesters held placards and banners some of which read 'Provide 13th month pay', 'Regularize service of VDF personnel by framing R/R', 'Children of VDF deserve proper education', 'pay compatible salary to the VDF personnel', 'We firmly Stand for our near and dear ones', 'Let the demands of our dear VDFs be fulfilled at the earliest', 'Establish separate wing/battalion for VDF' and 'Families and children of VDF are suffering, we have nothing for the survival'.

Members of VDF Guardians' Association Thoubal also staged a sit-in protest at Khangabok New Bazar on Thursday demanding the government to address the demands of VDF personnel.

According to Association president Kh Memma Devi, the honorarium of Rs 8500 given to VDF personnel is not enough to cover house hold expenditure and as such the VDFs' demand to the government to increase honorarium, pay 13th month salary, draft service RR, establish separate battalion, issue service book, pension system, etc., should be accorded priority.

The president also cautioned that if the government ignored the said demands then they are ready to join any protest launched by the VDF associations of state.
