Imphal, November 03 2021: Intending candidate of Lamsang AC Wangkheimayum Sumati, who is the wife of ex-MLA Brajabidhu, organised a feast for widows of the constituency at Lamdeng Awang Leikai on Wednesday.

Presided over by Warepam Birsing, an elderly man of Lamdeng Awang Leikai; the solemn event was attended by Sumati as chief guest, while High Power Committee Lamsang for W Sumati Devi-Candidate 12th General Assembly Election chairman Chingshubam Nimai Singh, convenor Laishram Nabakumar Singh and vice chairman Chongtham Dhurbatara Khaba; Mayanglangjing GP pradhan Takhellambam Tompok; Awang Potsangbam GP pradhan Meishnam Man-gi; and All India Trinamool Congress Committee president Dr Thockhom Inaocha were as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Sumati urged for giving support and encouragement to widows, while further urging for concerted efforts for a better future of the state and its people.

She then said that women have a huge role to play in bringing about significant changes in the society.

Stating that she decided to contest the elections to fulfil the visions of her late husband, the aspiring candidate urged the people to elect her so that she could serve the people wholeheartedly.

Later, as part of the programme, gifts were presented to the widows.

In Thoubal district, Indian National Congress (INC) intending candidate in Lilong AC Syed Anwar Hussain presented edibles as gifts to women of the constituency on Wednesday in connection with the Ningol Chakkouba festival.

Syed Anwar handed over the gifts to representatives of ten polling stations of the constituency for further distribution to 2800 women.

He also extended Ningol Chakkouba greetings to the women of Lilong in particular.

Meanwhile, Chanura Lamchinglel Kangleipak (CLK) has extended its greetings to the people of the state, women in particular, for 'Ningol Chakkouba' festival.

In a release, CLK president Ch Pakpi Chanu prayed to the Almighty to guide women of Manipur towards making the society more courageous and strengthen the bond between the brothers and sisters and bring peace and harmony in the state.

She also cautioned traders not to hike prices of essential items to gain more profits with the coming of the festival.

Departments concerned should frequently check the prices of items being sold in markets and cancel the licenses and take legal action against shops found selling products in violation of the rules and regulations, it added.

CLK further demanded the authorities concerned to inspect and conduct tests on regular basis so as to prevent adulteration of the edible products sold during festival times.

Intending candidate from Khundrakpam AC Dr Ksh Kala also presented gifts to the vendors of Pangei Bazar in connection with the Ningol Chakouba festival on Wednesday.

Speaking at the event, Dr Kala prayed that the festival would usher in peace and tranquillity in the state and further strengthen the bond between brothers and sisters of the state.

He then urged for collective efforts to upgrade Pangei Bazar to municipality or Nagar Panchayat level.

In all, 35 vendors were presented gifts.

Dr Kala was accompanied by Khundrakpam GP ward member Ton-jam Shyama Khuman and members of Pangei Yangdong Youth Club on the event.
