Imphal, June 16 2023: Heigrujam Daya scored twice after Dangmei Grace's opener to help defending champions Manipur launch their Senior Women's National Football Championship final round campaign (Group B) with a comfortable 3-1 win over Maharashtra.

Dangmei Grace put Manipur ahead at the Guru Nanak Stadium in Amritsar in the 24th minute but Maharashtra managed to draw level with Arya More's goal in the 34th minute.

After the two sides entered into the break with score locked at 1-1, H Daya broke the deadlock and helped Manipur regain the lead in the 47th minute before further cementing the lead with another strike in the 54th minute.

State women then held on to their lead to earn first three points in the final round of the championship.

12 teams clubbed into two groups are competing in the final round (round robin format) and top two teams from each group will qualify for semis.

Manipur are clustered with Maharashtra, West Bengal, Haryana, Railways and Himachal Pradesh.

Manipur reached the final round of the tournament as Group VI winners winning four of four games while Karnataka finished Group runners up with three wins in four matches.

Manipur will face West Bengal in the next match on June 18 at 7.30 pm .
