In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that a search operation was conducted based on credible information about the illegal transportation of areca nuts between the villages of Shankalok and Aloyo.
The column stopped eight trucks (Kunda Gadi) illegally carrying areca nuts without valid documents, purportedly intended for unlawful distribution on the black market.
Areca/betel nuts worth Rs 8.40 crore were found in 870 bags (about 70 tonnes in weight) and they were handed over to the forest beat officer at Gomnam, Kamjong district, said the release.
