Imphal, March 30 2024:
Condemning the bomb blast which occurred in the wee hours of March 29 at Lamtai Khunou under Borobekra sub-division, Jiribam, the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur has asserted that the blast was carried out by miscreants to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the district populated by multiple communities.
According to a statement issued by Nerish Mangang, secretary information & public relations, FOCS, the blast caused significant damage to three shops owned by one Haobam Manikumar.
Seeking the attention of the District Administration and State Home Department to apprehend the culprits responsible for the explosion, FOCS further claimed that unknown miscreants suspected to be from the Chin-Kuki community have launched bomb and gun attacks in Lamtai Khunou area four times so far.
In the face of such allegedly repeated acts of "provocation" on the Meitei community of Borobekra sub-division, FOCS termed it unfortunate that the concerned authorities have not initiated any action against the perpetrators.
In addition, FOCS has appealed to the State Government to increase the manpower and improve the infrastructure of Lamtai Khunou police station to ensure that the security personnel are able to promptly apprehend the culprits when such violent attacks take place.
On another note, FOCS has denounced the statement released by one Indigenous Tribes Advocacy Committee (ITAC), Pherzawl and Jiribam Districts placing blame on Arambai Tenggol and an insurgent group for the incident.
Highlighting the importance of identifying the perpetrators behind such bomb and gun attacks on the Meitei community in Jiribam, FOCS has demanded appropriate punishment for the culprits involved.
