10 candidates in race for two Lok Sabha seats
Six in fray for Inner Manipur seat

Imphal, March 30 2024:
A total of six candidates will be fray for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency seat, while four candidates would be contesting for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency seat in the ensuing 18th Lok Sabha General Elections, 2024 .
On the final day of filing nomination papers for election to the 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency on Wednesday, six candidates submitted their nomination papers to contest in the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha Election.
The nominations were submitted at the office of Returning Officer in Lamphelpat, Imphal West.

The candidates filed their nominations included Maheshwar Thounaojam representing Republican Party of India-Athawale (RPI-A); Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh representing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP); Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam representing Indian National Congress (INC); Moirangthem Totomshana Nongshaba representing Rashtriya Janhit Sangharsh Party (RJSP); Haorungbam Sarat Singh - Independent candidate and Ngasepam Nilakanta Singh representing Universal Family Party.
It may be mentioned that Rajkumar Somendro alias Kaiku had already filed his nomination paper representing Manipur People's Party (MPP) on Monday.
He became the first candidate to file the nomination for the 1-Inner Manipur Constituency seat.
After completion of the filing of nomination papers for the 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency seat on Wednesday, the nomination papers scrutinized on Thursday by the Returning Officer, No 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency at Lamphelpat.
The scrutiny session commenced at 11 am at the office of RO and was chaired by Th Kirankumar, Returning Officer, No 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary-Constituency.
Candidates, election agents, proposers, General Observer and officials of Imphal West DEO were also present during the scrutiny.
Rajkumar Somendro Singh alias Kaiku, who filed his nomination paper as MPP candidate, was accepted as an independent candidate after scrutiny.
Moirangthem Totomshana Nongshaba, who filed his nomination paper as RJSP candidate, was also accepted as an independent candidate post scrutiny.
During the scrutiny, the nomination papers of Maheshwar Thounaojam, who filed as candidate of RPI-A; Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh, who filed as BJP candidate Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who filed as INC candidate, and Haorungbam Sarat Singh, who filed as an independent candidate, were cleared and accepted.
However, the candidature of Ngasepam Nilakanta Singh, who filed his nomination as candidate of Universal Family Party, was rejected after scrutiny.
While the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers was on Saturday, none of the candidates who passed the scrutiny withdrew their nomination papers, thereby finalising the total number of candidates contesting for the Lok Sabha polls from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency to six.
The upcoming 18th Lok Sabha election will be held in two phases in Manipur.
The first phase of voting will be held on April 19, which will cover the constituencies of 1-Khundrakpam, 2-Heingang, 3-Khurai, 4-Kshetrigao, 5-Thongju, 6-Keirao, 7-Andro, 9-Thangmeiband, 10-Urip-ok, 11-Sagolband, 12-Keishamthong, 13-Singjamei, 14-Yaiskul, 15-Wangkhei, 16-Sekmai, 17-Lamshang, 18-Konthoujam, 19 Patsoi, 20-Langthabal, 21-Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, 22-Wangoi, 23-Mayang Imphal, 24-Nam-bol, 25-Oinam, 26-Bishnu-pur, 27-Moirang, 28-Thanga, 29-Kumbi, 30-Lilong, 31-Thoubal, 32-Wangkhem, 33-Heirok, 34-Wangjing Tentha, 35-Khangbok, 36-Wabagai, 37-Kakching, 38-Hiyanglam, 39-Sugnu, 41-Chandel, 46-Saikul, 50-Kangpokpi, 51-Saitu, 57-Henglep, 58-Chura-chandpur, 59-Saikot and 60-Singhat.
